South Yorkshire fires round-up: Arsonists torch camping gear in Barnsley

Arsonists set fire to a set of camping equipment in Barnsley during what was a busy night for fire services.

Yobs struck to the rear of a property in Highstone Avenue, Worsbrough Common, at 11.30pm last night.

A crew from Barnsley Fire Station spent 20 minutes tackling the blaze.

Elsewhere, firefighters dealt with a blaze on grassland at Midhurst Road, Birley Edge, at 9pm. It was started accidentally and a crew from Rivelin used hose reel water jets to put the fire out.

Five minutes later in Pearson Crescent, Wombwell in Barnsley a pile of litter was set alight by arsonists. Cudworth Station firefighters extinguished the blaze.

A car went up in flames in Kilnhurst Road, Hooton Roberts, Rotherham, at 10.10pm. A crew from Rotherham Station spent 30 minutes at the scene. No cause was given.

Cudworth Station firefighters were called into action after a bin went up in flames in Regent Crescent, Athersley South, Barnsley, at 2.10am. They spent 10 minutes at the scene. The fire was started accidentally.
