South Yorkshire drinkers urged to stay dry for September

South Yorkshire men and women are being challenged to ditch the drink this September to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The charity is urging people to sign up to its Dryathlon - a fundraising campaign that invites social drinkers to take a month-long break from alcohol.

For the first time the campaign will take place in September as well as the New Year.

‘Dryathletes’ pledge to stay dry for a month and either get sponsored or donate the money they would have spent on alcohol to the charity.

Nicki Embleton, Cancer Research UK’s spokesperson for Yorkshire, said: “We’re so excited to launch Dryathlon in September and we hope that men and women across the region will take on this new challenge in the autumn.

“It’s the start of a new season, so this is the perfect opportunity to kick-start the month with a clear head. We’re confident that men and women in Yorkshire will say ‘cheers’ to the challenge and help us bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
