South Yorkshire challenge raises funds for local clubs

A four week fundraising frenzy could see a local football club receive a huge cash injection next month.

Dearne & District Junior Football Club is taking part in the first ever South Yorkshire Charity Sports Challenge, being held throughout June and July, in an effort to raise much-needed funds.

The brand new challenge, which sees nine local groups compete for investment, is an initiative administered by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity, in partnership with the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA and SIV.

Each group has from the launch of the World Cup on June 14 to the day of the World Cup Final on July 15 to raise as much money as possible, with the promise that each group gets their fundraising efforts matched to the value of £2,500.

A further £2,500 will be awarded to the group that raises the most money across the competition to encourage them to raise as much money as possible. There will also be smaller spot prizes for the clubs that demonstrate good teamwork, best social media and best fundraising ideas.

The grants provide local team the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities by providing disadvantaged children the opportunity to take part in grass roots sports and fulfil their potential. Projects in the pipeline with money raised include investment in kit, facilities and subsiding costs of training to support families on low incomes.
