Dearne & District Junior Football Club is taking part in the first ever South Yorkshire Charity Sports Challenge, being held throughout June and July, in an effort to raise much-needed funds.

The brand new challenge, which sees nine local groups compete for investment, is an initiative administered by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity, in partnership with the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA and SIV.

Each group has from the launch of the World Cup on June 14 to the day of the World Cup Final on July 15 to raise as much money as possible, with the promise that each group gets their fundraising efforts matched to the value of £2,500.

A further £2,500 will be awarded to the group that raises the most money across the competition to encourage them to raise as much money as possible. There will also be smaller spot prizes for the clubs that demonstrate good teamwork, best social media and best fundraising ideas.

The grants provide local team the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities by providing disadvantaged children the opportunity to take part in grass roots sports and fulfil their potential. Projects in the pipeline with money raised include investment in kit, facilities and subsiding costs of training to support families on low incomes.

Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids is a local charity that fundraises to help disadvantaged and disabled children across South Yorkshire.

Allan Ogle, charity manager for Cash for Kids, said: “This competition provides an amazing opportunity for those clubs out there who are struggling for funds to get a huge boost to support their teams with equipment and activities to support disadvantaged children within their communities.

“We are proud that every penny that is raised by Cash for Kids stays locally dealing with issues on our doorstep and responding to the needs of our communities.”

Gary Senior, current Dearne & District unders tens Reds manager, and head of social media at Dearne & District JFC, said: “This is an incredible opportunity for our club to get a huge amount of investment to improve our facilities and offerings to children in our local community.”

Each group will find out how much their club is granted at a celebratory ceremony held at English Institute of Sport on Friday July 20.
