South Yorkshire animal rescue seeks home for unwanted dog

An animal charity in South Yorkshire is looking for a home for a dog which has been unwanted for a year.

Dolly, a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was a stray who has been cared for by Rain Rescue since last February.

She was thin and had been used to breed from despite only being young herself.

Dolly has a foster carer but it is hoped that she will eventually be offered a permanent new home.

Lauren Sanderson, Rain Rescue’s deputy manager, said: “Dolly is a fabulous girl who has been sadly overlooked for a whole year.

“She is a happy character who loves to play in the garden and then snuggle up on a cosy sofa for the evening.

“We are desperate to see her settled in a permanent home as no dog deserves to be homeless for so long.”

Over the last year Rain Rescue has re-homed 37 Staffordshire Bull Terriers and in September partnered with Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as part of their ‘Staffies: They’re Softer Than You Think’ campaign, to try to help change negative public perceptions of the breed.

The RSPCA’s animal centre in Sheffield has a number of Staffordshire Bull Terriers in need of homes.

Rain Rescue was set up in 2002 to help save lost and stray dogs in council dog pounds to avoid them being put to sleep.

It also takes in dogs and cats whose owners have died or are facing eviction from their homes.

It keeps some dogs in kennels and has volunteer fosterers who offer temporary homes.

The charity saved 391 dogs and cats last year and spent £40,000 on vets bills.

There are currently around 20 animals in its care.

The charity raises money through shops in Northern Avenue, Arbourthourne, Sheffield, and Flanderwell Lane, Sunnyside, Rotherham and a jumble sale unit at Dinnington Business Centre, Dinnington.
