SLIDESHOW: Stack of entries for Isle horticultural society

The well-attended event took place at the Imperial Hall, Epworth.

All sections were well represented with entries from Mexborough, Gainsborough, Scunthorpe and Doncaster. Many new exhibitors contributed, including a good number of keen young gardeners. Vegetable and fruit sections were judged by Bob Herbert of Sheffield who selected tomatoes exhibited by Janice Bullock of Epworth as best entry over all.

The flowers and floral  art section was judged by David Willoughby of Rotherham who chose Judith Priestly of Gringley’s art entry as favourite.

Cookery judge Joanna Phillips of Misson commented on the ‘lovely food’ entries, selecting five decorated cupcakes made by Nora Mellor of Epworth as best exhibit.

The painting, craft and needlework section was judged by Maureen Ball from Wroot who was most impressed by an Australian-themed bedspread made by K Keiztberg. Many entries from Kayla Turner and Lucy Brannon were noted in the children’s section.

Huge marrows were auctioned off among other donated items by John Brown of Hatfield Woodhouse. All prizes were claimed in the large raffle that featured many items donated by local businesses and sponsors.

This year’s show received grant funding from North Lincolnshire Council.
