CROWDS lined the streets in Mexborough for the annual festive parade and switch on of the Christmas lights.
Despite the freezing temperatures shoppers enjoyed a day of festive fun on Saturday as the High Street was full of fairground rides, stalls and music.
Highlights included a dance performance by youth group Kidz Du Care and magic tricks by Doncaster Community Arts (DARTS). There was also a Santa’s grotto, tombola and NHS nurses were on hand to give free heart checks.
The procession down the High Street got underway just after 6pm when Santa in his sleigh led a parade of cartoon characters to the outdoor market. Civic mayor of Doncaster, Coun Christine Mills, officially pushed the button to switch on the festive lights.
Coun Sue Phillips, who helped organise the event with Mexborough Community Partnership, said: “It was a great event which always kick starts the Christmas season in the town.
“We had a good number of shoppers come to town and there must have been about 200 people watching when the lights came on.
“It is always a popular event and everyone seemed to be having a fun time. It was great to see so many smiling faces, young and old.”
