Before the glittering televised event took place, the current star of Funny Girl in the West End tweeted: ‘Two bafta noms! So proud. How long that fight was to get it made, you never gave up.’

The reference was to the late Lisa Lynch, who was still alive for most of the filming of The C-Word, nominated for Best Single Drama in the BAFTAs, with Sheridan up for Leading Actress for her role as the cancer victim she grew extremely close to. The award eventually went to Suranne Jones for her Doctor Foster role.
