Sheffield traders fined for dodgy work

Two rogue traders in Sheffield have been fined more than £2,400 as punishment for their dodgy workmanship.

Sheffield’s Trading Standards team is warning people to be on their guard against rogue traders who call door to door offering building repairs.

Joseph Gaskin, aged 51, trading as ‘Roofmaster, attempted to charge his victim £480 to replace a few roof tiles and for some repointing work. A report described the work as ‘inadequate, ineffectual and valueless’.

Gaskin was fined £400, ordered to pay costs of £687.51 and pay a £30 victim surcharge.

In July 2015, Sam McCready, 26, trading as ‘Drive Medic’, attempted to disguise the fact he had not completed agreed work.

He had been asked to provide driveway cleaning services and misled his customer into believing all the work had been carried out.
