Sheffield record shop seeks funding from customers

Generous music lovers have been digging deep to help a Sheffield record shop achieve its dream of moving to larger premises.

Bear Tree Records, in Orchard Square, recently launched a GoFundMe campaign asking city residents to make donations to assist with a change of address.

Bear Tree Records opened in October 2015 as a vinyl only record shop in Sheffield, offering both a physical shop space as well as an online mailorder service. The shop sells all kinds of genres, from indie to metal, reggae to classic rock, psych to punk, with more niche genres like black metal, experimental & avant garde, hip hop, jazz, world, soul, blues, soundtracks and library music.

A spokesman said: “The shop is essentially a one man operation, based from a tiny unit in Sheffield city centre, filled to the brim. With this in mind, we are planning on moving the shop to a new unit, approximately three/four times the size of current space. From here we’ll be able to carry a broader range of well curated quality stock, hopefully hold in stores and signings from time to time, and offer a more spacious environment for browsing.

“We need more racks, more stock, maybe even a sofa for you regulars to hang out on.

“We’re looking at beginning work on the new space within the next few weeks, so the quicker we can raise funds the better, but we don’t want you to just give us money, we’re offering various rewards so you’ll get something back.”
