Research chemist Stuart Archer will embark on a mission to tickle the taste buds of members of the Royal Navy as he attempts to serve lunch on board the HMS Northumberland in tonight’s episode.

Split into two teams of four, each team will be given less than four hours to create two main courses and a dessert to feed 110 members of the ship’s company.

Stuart, who has already made it through Monday night’s tricky relay invention test, said: “It’s going to be a tough one.

“It’s not something that any of us have ever attempted before.

“We have to cook outside as well so depending on the weather conditions I think that could also throw up some difficult challenges.

“It’s quite an ask because it’s a lot of food for the two teams to make between us in that time frame.

“I think it’ll all come down to teamwork.”

If the 31-year-old makes it through tonight’s challenge, he will still have to take on two more cook-offs this week in order to win one of six spots in this year’s Masterchef final.

Stuart told The Star: “It’s anyone’s competition this year, everyone is really strong.

“I don’t think there’s an obvious winner this time, so we’ll see what happens.”

Stuart says he has always enjoyed cooking but it was when he moved to Sheffield in 2010 and began eating at some of the city’s ‘amazing’ eateries that it became a passion for him.

He said: “It’s hard not to fall in love with food and cooking after with so much great food around.”

Stuart, who lives in Ecclesall, said The Milestone in Kelham Island, The Broadfield on Abbeydale Road and city centre burrito company Street Food Chef are among his favourite places to eat in the city.

n Tonight’s episode is due to be broadcast on BBC One at 9pm.
