New figures show that the city's children will be among some of the worst off in Britain on December 25 - with children in Glasgow and Middlesbrough set to work up to a £400 crop of prezzies.

And the survey has revealed that the city's youngsters will be awake by 6.15am - later than last year.

Research has found that Belfast is the city which wakes up first- at an alarming 4am - while the lazy Scots in Glasgow don’t awaken until 9am.

The study, by Voucherbox.co.uk found that the average wake up time for the UK on Christmas day is 6.08am

Glasgow and Middleborough spend a whopping £400 on gifts per child – more than five times the national average of £75 per child, which is what Sheffield youngsters can look forward to receiving.

Children in Sheffield are expected to get up between 6 - 6:15am- last year, the average wake-up time was 5:45-6am

Just 55% of children wake up earlier than normal on Christmas Day and 47% of families in Sheffield must wait until everyone is awake before touching their presents.

It was no surprise to find that most UK children are more excited about opening presents on Christmas Day than giving them with only 5% percent looking forward to gifting others.

More than half of children’s toys to sit under the tree this year have a place on the Toy Retailers Association top 12 toys for Christmas 2016 list, and nearly 10% are set to open a LEGO Friends Amusement Park Roller Coaster, which stands as the present most in demand.

Shane Forster, UK Country Manager comments: “Christmas is an expensive time of year for parents, not to mention a tiring one if you live in Belfast!

"More than a quarter of parents have spent more this year on Christmas presents for their kids in comparison to previous years.

"The most coveted toys of the year can be quite costly, but there are of course still deals to be had online.”
