Sheffcare celebrates praise by the Care Quality Commission

Burnt Tree Croft, in St Phillips Road, Netherthorpe, was the latest in the chain of ten homes to be visited by the CQC, the independent regulator of health and social care in England.

And in line with the other nine Sheffcare homes visited by the inspectors in the latest cycle of full inspections, it was rated good in all main areas, including safety, caring, effectiveness of service, responsiveness and quality of leadership.

“People spoken with were positive about their experience of living at Burnt Tree Croft,” the inspectors said.

“They told us they felt safe and they liked the staff and relatives spoken with had no concerns regarding their relative’s care.

“They told us they knew staff well and they were always kept up to date with any news.

Healthcare professionals spoken with also told the inspectors they had no concerns about the home.

Burnt Tree Croft is one of the Sheffcare properties that specialises in dementia care and inspectors found that staff were working within the guidelines of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

“The registered manager was aware of the role of Independent Mental Capacity Advocates and how they could be contacted and recent changes in Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards legislation,”the inspectors’ report explained.

“Staff we spoke with understood the principles of the MCA and DoLS and staff also confirmed that they had been provided with training in MCA and DoLS and could describe what these meant in practice.”

Sheffcare Chief Executive Belinda Black said she was delighted with the inspectors’ response to the home and its services.

“This is a particularly important report for us as it means that all ten Sheffcare homes have now been rated good in the latest cycle of inspections,” she said.

“We are always very happy to welcome the CQC into any of our properties as we are confident that all our services will stand up to the inspectors’ close standards of scrutiny.

“Our primary concern is always the comfort and safety of our residents and once again we have a report that proves that our levels of service and support are of the highest possible standard.”
