The Shadowlands UK tour arrived in the region on Tuesday and will finish in Doncaster on Saturday - the same day that the Tour crosses the finish line in the town.

“The show is set in Oxford, so of course every one rides a bike, which seems particularly fitting in South Yorkshire this weekend!” said the show’s marketing manager Jenny Crowder.

Shadowlands is a powerful story that tackles universal questions of love and faith. A West End and Broadway triumph, Shadowlands is the love story of C.S. Lewis - Oxford don and author of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Screwtape Letters - and American poet Joy Davidman.

The touching play poses classic questions about religion, pain and love, from childhood innocence to the beautiful wonder of late-flowering love.

Shadowlands won the Evening Standard Drama Award for Best Play in 1990 and playwright William Nicholson was nominated for a Tony Award when it transferred to Broadway.

A meeting of two very different minds slowly develops into a moving love affair. Lewis finds his quiet life with his brother Warnie disrupted by the outspoken, feisty Davidman, whose uninhibited behaviour offers a sharp contrast to the rigid sensibilities of the male-dominated university. Each provides the other with new ways of viewing the world, but Lewis’s faith is tested when Joy is diagnosed with cancer.
