Search launched for those involved in A18 crash

A man was taken to hospital following a collision on the A18 yesterday (Sunday) morning.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash urgently as the occupants of one car involved deserted the scene and have not yet been traced. The two-vehicle incident was on the A18 Mortal Ash Hill in Scunthorpe at around 5.45am.

It involved a silver Ford Focus and a black Audi S3 and was on the west bound section of Mortal Ash Hill, between the B1398 junction and the new roundabout junction of (Gate A) Tata steelworks.

The Ford, driven by a 54-year-old man, left the carriageway to the nearside following the collision and rolled over sustaining substantial damage.

The driver and only occupant of the car was conveyed to Hull Royal Infirmary. His injuries are described as serious but not life threatening.

The Audi was also badly damaged after rolling over in the carriageway. However, the driver and any occupants from the car left the scene and as yet have not been traced.

Enquiries are ongoing to determine who was in the car, which is thought to be a stolen motor vehicle, and police are concerned for the welfare of the driver and any passengers due to the considerable damage that the vehicle itself suffered.
