A spokesman for the Enviromnent Agency said: “River levels have continued to fall overnight in the Lower Don Catchment, but remain relatively high as a result of recent rainfall and ongoing snow melt.

"Ea Beck is also falling and no longer spilling over at Norwood, however low lying land in this area remains flooded. A prolonged period of heavy rain is expected from Monday night with high rain totals through to Thursday, particularly over the Pennines.

"As the ground is saturated and river levels elevated, we are monitoring the situation closely and will be assessing whether we need to issue flood warnings from Tuesday onwards.

"Our operational staff will be out today checking our flood defences and clearing screens ahead of the rainfall. Please stay away from low lying roads, which may be flooded. Be aware of standing water which may make driving conditions hazardous.”
