Ryde romps to victory in Sandall Beat 10k

Doncaster Athletic Club's Carl Ryde romped to victory in his debut in the Sandall Beat 10k race.

Ryde, who flew the flag for the town in the recent London Marathon, clocked a time of 34 minutes 22 seconds.

Club-mate Simon Wright (vet-50) finished seconds almost two minutes adrift in a time of 36.20.

Doncaster teenager Kallum Silcox, fourth overall in a time of 37.36, was the first U20 male.

Paul Bond (Doncaster) 24th overall in a time of 42.58, won the vet-55 race.

There was also joy for the promoting club in the vet-65 race with Phil Bussey, 34th overall in a time of 44.18, repeating last year’s success.

Richard Lambert, 36th in a time of 44.32, was the first Danum Harrier to finish with Doncaster Triathlon Club’s Jonathan Veall, 44th in 45.29, and Tickhill’s Max Polson, 46th in 45.57, doing likewise for their respective clubs.

Doncaster's Ryde, Wright and Silcox won the men’s team prize.

Doncaster’s Nicola Devine, 25th overall in a time of 43.08, was second to Goole’s Julie Masterman in the women’s race.

Danum’s Eleanor Bull (51.40) won the vet-45 race and club-mate Heather Jones (51.42) took the honours in the vet-50 race.

Danum's Paula Davies, Bull and Jones won the women’s team prize.

The race had 279 finishers, slightly down on last year.

The entry in the One Mile Family Fun run – contested within the grounds of Doncaster RFC’s Castle Park - and won by Doncaster’s Edward Philips (7.47), was also down on 2015.

Club-mate Harry Flint (8.46) was runner-up. Isabel Robinson (Doncaster), fifth overall in 8.59, won the girl’s race.
