Rotherham Titans sign Scots U20 star to boost pack

Rotherham Titans have strengthened their pack by signing Scottish second row forward Adam Sinclair, 22, who starts training with the Championship club today.

Sinclair, who has been playing for the French Division Two club Albi, based in southern France, has appeared for Scotland Under-20s and joins Rotherham to help the Titans recover from an injury crisis.

“Adam is a big, physical player and we are delighted he’s coming here,” says forwards’ coach Steve Salvin.

“He’s going to be invaluable because of his size and we need Adam to help us through our injury problems which have seen us lose two second rows in Toby Salmon and George Oram.

“He was keen to return to the UK after two years in France and I’m really pleased Adam’s chosen us.”

Rotherham had considered signing Sinclair before this season but as they had four second rows there was no need, but now that Oram and Salmon will be absent for some weeks with thumb injuries, the Scottish forward’s availability is essential.

With vital Championship matches coming up soon against Doncaster Knights and Bristol, coaches Mark Jones and Salvin require the option of picking a player of Sinclair’s sized and power.

It’s too early to say when he will make his Titans debut, but Sinclair may travel with the squad for the contest against Leinster A in the British and Irish Cup in Dublin on Friday evening.

Rotherham’s attempts to sign another second row forward continue and an announcement may be made later this week.

Meanwhile, Rotherham and Ealing Trailfinders today will be in contact with each other to try to find a suitable date to play their outstanding game in the B and I Cup which was called off on Saturday because of a frozen pitch at Clifton Lane.
