The two-day spectacular took place in Thorne to mark the milestone, celebrating Victory in Europe Day in 1945.

The event, over the weekend, featured a host of music, re-enactments and stalls with residents donning their best 1940s-style clothes for the occasion.

It kicked off with members of the The Royal British Legion leading a parade, accompanied by cadets, Sheffield Pipe Band, classic cars and a children’s jazz band.

Organiser Linda Kinloch Grainger said: “It was absolutely marvellous, a wonderful weekend and the parade was so moving.

“Around 10,000 people attended over the weekend not just from the area but from all over the country.

“This event really helps to put Thorne on the map and bring about a sense of community spirit.

As successful as the event was, Linda said the team must attract sponsorship to ensure it can go ahead next year.

“We love hosting the event but we need volunteers and sponsors to come forward to make this happen again next year.”

Anyone who wants to sponsor next year’s event or volunteer can contact Linda on 01405 817186.
