Bosses say the finishing touches are now being made to the Finningley And Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme, which is due to open to traffic at the end of next month.

Despite the winter storms, the final pieces of work along the route and the link into Rossington are now being carried out.

All of the major structures including six bridges over railway lines and watercourses are complete.

But bosses today warned of more road closures to allow work on junctions with existing roads to be carried out.

To finish the junction at Parrots Corner, overnight works will take place on up to five consecutive nights this week, having started on Sunday January 24.

Peter Dale, director of regeneration and environment, said: “We are now entering the home straight with the FARRRS regeneration project which is already delivering significant economic benefits for Doncaster.

“The first units at the £400million iPort are under construction, Doncaster Sheffield Airport has announced a partnership with Flybe with new flights across Europe and homes are being built on the former Rossington Colliery site.

“To complete the Parrots Corner junction, where FARRRS connects to the existing road network, we need to carry out some essential overnight works. We apologise in advance for any disruption this may cause but the closure allows the contractor to finish the surfacing works so the junction is ready for the new link road to open in the coming weeks.”

The A638 Bawtry Road from its junction at Warning Tongue Lane up to Sheep Bridge Lane will be closed overnight from 9pm until 6am on each night from Sunday January 24. The last of the night time closures is due end on the morning of Friday January 29.

Sheep Bridge Lane will remain open during the closure periods.

But access to and from Doncaster will be via the A638 Great North Road, Hurst Lane, B1396, Main Street, New Road, Doncaster Road, Cantley Lane, and Bawtry Road Access to the Hare and Tortoise public house and properties close to the junction will remain open as you approach from Doncaster but all other road users will be directed along the signposted diversion:

It may be extened if bad weather affects the work, say bosses, but will not be closed on Friday or Saturday nights.
