Relegated Doncaster Rovers '˜in need of shake-up'

Yesterday’s dour 0-0 draw with Burton Albion confirmed Rovers’ third relegation in five seasons.

And the club’s downward trajectory will be at the forefront of Ferguson’s mind this summer as he seems certain to oversee big changes in attempt to arrest the slide.

“I don’t think it’s as simple as what happens out on a football pitch on a Saturday and a Tuesday,” Ferguson said.

“I just think the whole thing needs a shake-up. In fact I know it does.

“We’ve got to get momentum back into the football club.

“It’s been a horrible week and it won’t be a nice summer. We should be rightly embarrassed that we’ve been relegated out of this league.

“I told the players after the game that they should be embarrassed. I wasn’t going to go in there and say ‘well done’.

“It’s not a well done season. It’s been a terrible season. But I’m totally up for the challenge and I do believe, if we get the recruitment right, we’ve got a really good chance of getting out of League Two and then that brings its own momentum with it.”

While Rovers reflected on a sorry season, Burton celebrated promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.

“It’s never nice to see another team celebrating at your ground but congratulations to Burton, it’s an outstanding achievement by them,” said Ferguson.

“They’re a great example of what you can do when you’ve got a bit of momentum, winning back-to-back promotions.”

Cedric Evina missed yesterday’s game with a neck injury, while James Coppinger was rested.

Aaron Taylor-Sinclair suffered a potentially serious knee injury, while Riccardo Calder limped off with a hamstring problem.
