REGIONAL NEWS: Latest appeal after baby boy found in drain

The baby’s body was discovered in a drain in the grounds of a property in Scartho Road, on Thursday, February 11.

A post mortem examination, conducted by a Home Office pathologist yesterday, has proved inconclusive.

Detective Inspector Christine Calvert, one of the officers leading the investigation, said officers were continuing to follow up a number of lines of enquiry.

She added: “We would continue to appeal to members of the public to come forward if they have any information or concerns relating to the investigation.

“The baby’s body must have been placed in the location where he was discovered, as the pipes either side are too narrow for him to have settled there.

“His body was wrapped in a Marks and Spencers towel, which also contained a 10 pence coin – dated 2013 – and a number of elasticated hair bands.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the significance of this.”

DI Calvert added the force was also continuing to work with partners in the health sector and in social services, in the aim of identifying the boy’s parents.

She said: “"At this time, very little is known in terms of the circumstances which led to baby’s death, but we are concerned that the baby 's parents, in particular his mother, may need help and support following the loss of her child and as such she may be very vulnerable."We are urging anyone who can help identify the parents of this baby or the parents themselves to come forward in order for us to make sure they get any support or medical treatment that may be required.”
