Rail delays after arson attack

TRAIN services between Doncaster and Sheffield are facing delays after vandals set fire to rail cables.

Network Rail says up to 20 minutes are being added to journeys with trains having to be diverted around the affected area in Rotherham.

Services affected include those between Sheffield and Cleethorpes, Sheffield and Doncaster and Lincoln and Sheffield. Some services are also missing station stops as a result of the vandalism.

Richard Lungmuss, route director for Network Rail, said “I would like to apologise to passengers for the unacceptable delay being caused to their journey today.

“Our engineers are on site and will restore a normal service as soon as possible. We are working with British Transport Police to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Passengers are advised to check with national rail enquiries – 08457 48 49 50 before they travel.
