A RAIL worker killed on the tracks after being struck by a train yesterday is understood to be a Doncaster man.

The Network Rail contractor was hit by the 11.19am service from Scunthorpe to Lincoln, operated by Northern Rail.

The fatal collision happened at Sykes Lane near Saxilby station just before 2pm - on the same day Haxey four-year-old Emma Lifsey was struck by a train at a level crossing at Misson Springs, and later died from her injuries.

Network Rail confirmed a contractor had been ‘fatally struck’.

The worker is thought to be a Doncaster man, aged 26.

British Transport Police, Nottinghamshire Police and the Rail Accident Investigation Branch are investigating.

The line between Gainsborough Lea Road and Lincoln was closed for several hours.

East Midlands Trains are running replacement buses between Lincoln and Doncaster following the horror crash at Beech Hill Crossing, Springs Road.
