A MAN has been killed after the stolen quad bike he was riding veered off the road and smashed into trees during an early morning crash.
The 22-year-old Dunscroft man, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at hospital by doctors after suffering serious head injuries during the incident on Thorne Road, Blaxton.
Police closed the busy A614 Thorne Road for several hours in both directions after the horrific crash on Monday at 5am.
The rider had been travelling from Blaxton towards Lindholme when he lost control.
A Vauxhall Zafira was travelling with the quad bike, driven by a 23-year-old man with a 16-year-old male passenger - both were arrested on suspicion of theft and perverting the course of justice.
Police also want to trace the driver of a car who was travelling behind the quad bike to help with the investigation - the make, model, and colour are not known.
Anyone with information contact police on 101 quoting incident number 85 of November 7.
An inquest is expected to be opened this week. The tragedy was the second involving a vehicle hitting a tree in less than 24 hours after a 60-year-old motorcyclist from Balby was seriously injured on Sunday when his bike left the road and entered woodland near Bentley.
