£100k investment in new Isle garages

North Lincolnshire Homes is investing £100,000 to build new garages in Scunthorpe, Crowle, Epworth and Barton.

Plans to build 20 new garages have been submitted to North Lincolnshire Council for planning permission. If granted the building work is due to begin in autumn and will be available to rent, at a cost of £5.35 per week, at the beginning of 2015.

North Lincolnshire Homes currently has 1,525 garages which are rented to tenants, leaseholders and private residents.

Since launching an online garage application form and an interactive map to see exactly where the available garages are, the demand for them has grown and many which stood vacant for months have been rented. After reviewing the waiting list for garages and speaking to members of the public the social landlord has been able to identify the most suitable locations for the new garages to cater for the demand.

Jane Crookes, Lettings Manager, said: “Since we brought garage applications online and the interactive map, the demand for garages has been phenomenal.

“Previously we had a number of garages people were showing no interest in renting. However since we improved the application process the empty ones have been snapped up. We’ve been working hard to fill vacant garages and to identify where garages are most needed. We’ve done this through reviewing the waiting list and through speaking with members of the public. If planning permission is granted we will be able to build 20 brand new garages which will be available to rent in the New Year.”
