A PROJECT which proved successful in tackling anti-social behaviour and crime in Mexborough has received two top awards.
Leaders of the multi-agency Neighbourhood Alliance project took home a Certificate of Merit at the Home Office Tilley Awards in London, along with a Certificate of Merit from the City of London Community Sheriffs’ Award.
The scheme involves concentrating resources from the police, council, fire service and other agencies in one area for a fortnight in a bid to drive down crime and improve the neighbourhood.
The project caused a reduction in crime figures when it targeted Mexborough in November 2009.
Temporary Chief Superintendent of Doncaster Police Tim Innes said: “The recognition of the project with these two awards highlights the dedication of individuals and the organisations involved in Neighbourhood Alliance, to make a difference and improve communities.”
