An investigation is underway into the cause of a house fire in Doncaster.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze in Apley Road, Hyde Park, at 4pm yesterday and found a mid-terrace property engulfed in flames.

The fire had started in a bedroom and gone through the floor boards.

Neighbouring homes, which were affected by smoke, were evacuated while firefighters extinguished the flames.

Five people in the house at the time - a man and woman, their daughter, her boyfriend and a young child - managed to escape.

A fire investigator is due to attend the scene of the blaze today to try to establish the cause.
