The wooden adventure playground in the middle of Sandall Beat Woods was found smouldering this morning after apparently being set on fire overnight.

The charred ruins of the play equipment were discovered early this morning by mum Nicola Phillips as she strolled through the beauty spot with her son and dog.

She said: “We were mortified.

"As we got closer, a large part of the fence had gone, and we could clearly see what had happened.

"My first reaction was that after this year it has been bad enough, without the kids’ park been taken from them too.

"It is such a mess. All the wood had burned. It must have been quite a fire, to burn, as it has been such bad weather. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.”
