Lighting firm Eaton has announced it plans to close its site on Wheatley Hall Road, with around 300 jobs lost as part of the plan.

It would open another smaller site elsewhere in the borough, but employing fewer people.

Ms Winterton, whose Doncaster Central constituency includes the company’s premises, said this afternoon: “It is extremely disappointing news that the company is moving out of the mains lighting product line and that redundancies will follow from this. I have asked to be kept informed about the consultation process and particularly to know what support will be given to those affected by redundancy.”

It is the latest blow to jobs in the borough.
