Bosses at the Department for Education said the first 50 schools were prioritised either because they have buildings of ‘specific construction types that require replacement’ and/or buildings have the ‘highest condition of need’.

At Ash Hill, the older central building will be demolished and replaced with a new facility.

This will run alongside the ongoing development of a new block which will include 28 teaching rooms, a special educational needs and disability support base, a personalised learning centre, five music rooms and two seminar rooms. The building will become operational by Easter.

Nick Fletcher, MP for Don Valley, said: “In its commitment to leveling up opportunity as we build back better, this Conservative government is determined to give every child in this country the world class education they deserve.

“In providing modern, state of the art facilities, we can ensure every child, no matter where they go to school, can learn in an environment that enables them to reach their full potential.”
