Paths at popular Doncaster beauty spot closed over social distancing fears

Paths at a popular Doncaster beauty spot have been sealed off after hundreds of walkers, joggers and cyclists ignored rules on social distancing.

Parts of the walkway around Lakeside have now been fenced off by Doncaster Council after people flocked to the area to enjoy sunny weather across the course of the weekend.

However, despite the route being closed off, many have ignored the shutdown with fencing being broken down.

The path, which runs around the perimeter of the lake is less than 2m wide along many stretches – meaning it does not comply with social distancing rules being enforced by Doncaster Council.

In recent weeks, the authority has put up signs and warning markers across Doncaster town centre urging people to stay 2m apart at all times as part of the coronavirus lockdown measures.

Lakeside is one of Doncaster’s most popular spots for walkers and cyclists,
