The mayor said she was delighted at the announcement and the move showed TUI’s ‘confidence’ in Doncaster.

Over 1.4 million passengers are expected to travel through DSA this financial year, representing its busiest year since opening in 2005 and more than doubling in size since 2013/14.

Passengers can now fly direct to 48 destinations from Doncaster Sheffield while Manchester offers 156.

Mayor Jones said: “It shows they really believe in the airport and Doncaster as a place to do business with. It shows we’re going in the right direction and it’s public/private partnership working at its best.

“Things like this grows our economy and gives people in our borough more jobs and high skilled ones as well in uncertain times.

“This is an asset for the whole region and it gives more reasons for people to travel from Doncaster and not go over the Pennines.”
