Off-license to sell booze from 5am at site of former Doncaster pub

Applicant Kopinath Kalanathan, of KKM Management Ltd, appeared before councillors on the licensing committee to request to sell booze from the early hours from a planned Costcutter store at the former Tadcaster Arms pub in Armthorpe.

The applicant did want to serve alcohol until 12 midnight but scaled it back to 11pm following a consultation period with different council departments.

The application received representations from two members of the public and all three Armthorpe councillors in relation to the council’s licensing objectives.

Doncaster Council does no longer publish objections or supporting statements from licensing applications from the public or elected councillors but does for planning matters.

Mr Kalanathan said that the shop would operate a Challenge 25 policy and install CCTV cameras at the entrance and around the premises in order to comply with the licensing objectives.

Councillors considered the application and heard about premises Mr Kalanathan runs in Kirk Sandall and another in York city centre.

The former pub’s second floor will be converted into flats and restrictions were put in place limiting deliveries of stock to the shop between 9am and 4pm to limit disruption to future residents.

Licensing committee vice-chair Coun Iris Beech, said: “The applicant has articulated the licensing objectives that we adhere to very well and this has been demonstrated by the other premises that he runs.

“I’m more than happy to approve the alcohol licence for the premises.”
