York Road recreation ground is one of nine parks managed by Hatfield Town Council but its play area has fallen into disrepair, with reports of equipment being urinated on and set on fire.

Mother-of-three Kelly Watson, from Dunscroft, said she called the Council ‘numerous times’ last year to complain about the state of the play area but never received a response and no repairs were made.

She said “They are not interested. It’s like Dunscroft is a forgotten village.

"I was told on Wednesday (19 August) not to let my two-year-old son go in the bowl because someone was seen peeing in it. The grass is overgrown, there’s glass everywhere, most of the play equipment is missing. It’s shocking.”

Another woman wrote on Facebook: “It’s the same on Jubilee Park, half of the equipment is missing or damaged. Very disappointing for the kids.”

Kelly added: "We’re a very underfunded community. We have had all our funding pulled. There’s nothing for the kids to do.”

A Hatfield Town Council spokesperson said: “The Town Council would like to reassure Dunscroft residents that they are certainly not forgotten. The Council is always keen to treat all four wards in its area equally.

"Plans to revamp our play equipment where necessary are already in progress and our York Road site in particular is due to be discussed at the next Council meeting on 14 September, potentially with a view to implementing some improvements there in the near future.”
