Doncaster Council will provide around £374,000 for regeneration works on the old Rossington Youth Club building to sublease to Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust to establish a community and commercial space using the space as part of the Rossington Pool refurbishment.

The Youth Club building is owned by the Official Custodian for Charities on behalf of the Rossington Miners Welfare Scheme.

The Council are in negotiations with the freehold owner to enter into a lease of the site on similar terms to the lease of the adjoining pool that the council already holds.

Once the lease is completed, the council will have exclusive possession of the building and will be able to carry out the works to grant an under lease to DCLT.

The total work includes surveys, asbestos removal, new walls, ceilings, floors, roof, a re-wire, new fire alarms and CCTV.

Other works include repointing, building alterations, demolitions and external work to improve the grounds outside the building.

Andy Maddox, from DCLT, said: “Recently, Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust have embarked on a capital investment programme to refurbish their facilities and bring the building to modern fresh standard. This includes Rossington pool which is undergoing £693,000 of investment works.

“As the buildings are connected and share some services, the pool refurbishments present a unique opportunity to develop the site as a community hub.

This will be done through a collaborative approach with DCLT becoming building managers, and working with, Doncaster Council Directorate, Learning Opportunities and Skills.

“Rossington Parish Council, voluntary and commercial organisations established a mixed use that ensures the long-term operational viability of the building and its services.

To enable this to become reality a condition survey was commissioned and undertaken by Faithful and Gould with DMBC services reviewing the roof. The survey has identified the building requires various elements of work across the building, including mechanical, fabric and a new roof to secure the building and make it fit for future use.”
