Cash prizes to brighten up Belton this Christmas

Belton Parish Council is running its annual Christmas lights competition with cash prizes for the best decorated homes.

Residents in Belton, Beltoft and Sandtoft are encouraged to decorate their homes ready for judges touring the parish. Winners will receive their prizes at the parish council’s meeting on Tuesday January 19.

Unlike most Isle villages Belton doesn’t have a focal point for festive decorations. The busy A161 runs the length of the High Street and it is considered that decorations on the main road would be a distraction to road users. Consequently over the last 15 years, Belton Parish Council has sought to brighten up the village through this competition.

Council chairman David Neale said: “We are looking for the brightest and most colourful homes in the parish.

“Our judges will be out and about in the run up to Christmas, and this year would like residents to send photos of their decorations so we can add them to our village webite. Although we can only offer prizes to residential premises, I hope retailers and businesses will enter to the festive spirit too.”
