South Yorkshire Police have warned people in Doncaster to be aware of an "ostrich-type bird" which is currently on the loose.

The bird was reported as loose in Sprotbrough area of Doncaster after a member of the public reported seeing it in woodland near to Nursery Lane.

Police said it is not known if the bird is aggressive but have requested residents not to approach it.

Instead, members of the public are requested to call 101 and quote incident number 641 of March 14 if they see the animal.

The sighting follows a similar incident in 2015 where South Yorkshire Police searched for an "aggresive" rhea which escaped from a private collection in Carlton-in-Lindrick, near Worksop.

The bird was then found "safe and well" in Hodsock.
