Dozens of drivers gathered at the Vue cinema car park in Lakeside over the weekend – and were praised by South Yorkshire Police after a similar rally in Sheffield last week was broken up by officers after those attending began performing wheel spins and handbrake turns.

A spokesman for the force’s Roads Policing Team said: “What a difference a week makes. Last week, a car cruise in Sheffield had attendees who thought wheel spins and handbrake turns were the best way to show off their vehicles. Obviously we did our bit to educate them how wrong they were.

“This week in Doncaster its a big thank you from us for the drivers of these classic American wheels.

"They came together for the pure joy of driving their American Classics and showing them off to like minded individuals. Thanks again and hope to be seeing you again soon.”
