A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Police are investigating reports of a racially aggravated incident at Clifton Community School on Tuesday, 17 November.

“No arrests have been made and officers are conducting enquiries.”

In a statement, Karen Borthwick, Rotherham Council’s Director for Schools and Lifelong Learning, said the authority took its safeguarding responsibilities very seriously and confirmed it had received a complaint regarding an incident in a lesson at Clifton Community School and was working with the school to investigate the matter.

She added: “The council has initiated the safeguarding processes involving relevant partner agencies. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further ahead of the conclusion of that process.”
