Buses were diverted after the incident, with services by two bus service operators, Stagecoach and First, affected.
Residents posting on social media said they believed a young girl had been injured by a car.
A spokesman for Stagecoach said this evening: “A police incident means that Balby Road Doncaster OUTBOUND is currently closed.

They added: “Service 221 will be diverting via Sandford Road, Wadworth village, and resuming service at Conisborough. We will update you as soon as services are running normal.”
FIrst said this evening that its services 15 and X78 were affected by an incident on Balby Road at The White Church, and were diverting along Hall Flat Lane and Broomhouse Lane and Markham Road.”
First, South Yorkshire’s largest bus operator, said that the inbound bus services were unaffected by the incident
South Yorkshire Police have been approached for more details about the incident.
