'Police incident' on North Bridge Road, Doncaster

North Bridge Road in Doncaster town centre has just re-opened after a ‘police incident’ this afternoon.

Police said they had to close the road to both vehicles and pedestrians due to ‘an ongoing police incident’ which was reported to officers earlier this afternoon.

Officers have revealed they made the decision to close the bridge because of concerns for the welfare of a person on the road.

Earlier they had warned traffic was likely to be busy in the area due to the incident as a result of the closure of the road, which crosses over the River Don.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement this evening: “Emergency services were called at around 1.45pm today (Friday 11 September) following concerns for the welfare of an individual on North Bridge.

“North Bridge Road was closed to allow emergency services to respond.

“The individual has since been brought to safety and the road has since reopened.”
