South Yorkshire Police said: “We received a report at around 12pm on Wednesday April 14 from a member of the public of a suspicious item in a bin at Wheatley Hall Road Retail Centre.

"Officers attended the scene to assess the item and it was concluded that it was an old metal detector alarm and therefore harmless.

The call to police was made in good faith.”
