Plea to report littering in Doncaster

Reporting environmental crime is the key to keeping Doncaster's streets clean, council bosses have said in a plea to residents.

Doncaster Council is getting tough on fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling that is blighting the borough - but chiefs say residents need to alert them to the worst areas.

The plea comes after a problem alleyway in Balby was tackled by the town’s street cleaning team when The Star highlighted the issue on Tuesday as part of its litter campaign.

Resident Gail Bell said hundreds of flies had invaded her home because of ongoing rubbish and littering problems in an alley behind Orchard Street.

After her plight was reported, the area has been completely cleared.

Cabinet member for regeneration, councillor Joe Blackham, said: “Our street scene and enforcement teams are out in Doncaster every day investigating environmental crime and dealing with the effects.

“Their hard work on Orchard Street emphasises how important it is for residents to work with us – we need you to keep reporting fly-tipping, littering and dog fouling to help us deal with the issue.

“We know it can be frustrating when environmental crime keeps re-occurring, but if you keep reporting, we will keep investigating to try and catch the careless people who are spoiling our Doncaster.”
