Plans for baby memorial garden at Doncaster Royal Infirmary

As part of its Grand Gestures 2016 scheme, rail operator Grand Central has awarded the infirmary £500 towards the space.

Staff at the hospital bid for the money to create a memorial garden for families who have experienced a miscarriage, still birth or neonatal death, providing them with a place to visit away from clinical areas.

The garden is part of the hospital’s Grace Project, which has improved the trust’s care and support for bereaved parents.

The money will be spent on plants, fencing, trees and seating, which will give families a space to remember the short but significant lives of their babies.

Sally Richardson, fundraiser at the hospitals trust, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been chosen to receive this grant to support our baby memorial garden at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

“We wanted to create a place for families to visit and celebrate the life of the baby, however short.

“Here at Doncaster Bassetlaw Hospitals we care for all bereaved families with thoughtfulness and compassion.

“We would like to thank Grand Central for their kind generosity.”
