A MASSIVE farm fire has killed a number of pigs who were unable to escape the flames.
Firefighters from nine stations were called to the blaze at Ardsley early this morning (Tuesday) as residents were warned to keep doors and windows closed.
The fire at Wood Laithes Farm began in bales of straw and pig manure, but spread to an adjacent brick farm building which houses around 500 pigs.
It is now thought to be under control, although the fire service is expected to be at the scene for a number of days.
Engines from Dearne, Rotherham, Cudworth, Barnsley, Tankersley and Royston rushed to the scene, with relief crew drafted in at about 9am.
The cause of the blaze is not yet known.
