Pictures of the River Idle at Bawtry show floodwaters slowly submerging the surrounding countryside, with the town one of several areas across Doncaster where residents have been told to prepare for the worst.

Over the last few days, Doncaster Council has been working around the clock to ensure as many people as possible are prepared for potential flooding with the area braced for days of heavy rain following an amber weather warning from the Met Office.

More than 40,000 sandbags have been delivered to homes hit by previous flooding in 2007 and 2019 and council bosses are nervously keeping an eye on rising waters on the Don, Dearne, Idle and Went rivers, which circle Doncaster.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, has already declared a major incident and has urged people to be prepared.
