Phase two plans of Doncaster’s FARRRS major road scheme on display

With the first phase of the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) nearing completion, preparations for the second phase are moving along at pace with information on the final part of this important link road being shared with the public.

Doncaster Council has organised a series of exhibitions inviting residents to learn more and have their say on the next stage of this regeneration project which will complete the connection from the motorway network to Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

The events are taking place at:

• Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Saturday January 9, 10am to 4pm

• Hatchell Wood Primary School, Tuesday January 12, 6pm to 8pm

• Doncaster Sheffield Airport, Wednesday January 13, 6pm to 8pm

The first phase of FARRRS is seeing a three mile road built from Junction 3 of the M18 to the A638 Bawtry Road near Rossington.

Opening in early 2016, this will help reduce congestion in the south of Doncaster, cut journey times to the airport and is enabling major private sector developments to start including the £400million iPort and the new housing on the former Rossington Colliery site. Doncaster Sheffield Airport recently announced eight new routes to leading European destinations with Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline.

Funded by Sheffield City Region Investment Fund, the second stage will complete the route from the motorway network to the airport by building a one mile connection from Bawtry Road to Hurst Lane.

Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones, said: “The new section of road will build on the transformational benefits FARRRS is already delivering for Doncaster and the Sheffield City Region. Completing the much needed link to our growing airport will further improve connections, stimulating more private sector investment which in turn creates more jobs and economic growth.

“I encourage people to attend one of the public exhibitions so they can find out how FARRRS will continue to drive Doncaster forward.”

The planning application currently being prepared for the second phase will be submitted in February 2016. Subject to the necessary approvals, construction will start towards the end of 2016 with completion by late 2017.

FARRRS is supported by the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Combined Authority and is a central part of the Sheffield City Region Growth Plan which aims to stimulate economic growth and create 70,000 jobs over the next 10 years.
