Moira Hood, who served as Labour councillor in the Wheatley ward for eight years in the early 2000s, died earlier this week after a battle with vascular dementia and cancer.

And Mayor Ros Jones has described her as someone who served the community ‘tirelessly’ during her career in the council chamber and also as a community stalwart.

She said: Moira served her community for many years and played an important part as we developed St Leger Homes, she served her community tirelessly and I know many of us will miss her.

“We send our deepest condolence to her family and friends, especially her husband Brian.”

Mrs Hood, who was 76, lived in Sandall Park for nearly 50 years and throughout her political career and even after retirement, she devoted her time to helping to improve the park.
