Tributes after death of Doncaster Korean War veteran at age of 88

Tributes have been paid following the death of a Doncaster Korean War veteran at the age of 88.

Richard David Elwess Brunton passed away at Doncaster’s St John’s Hospice last month, an obituary said.

“David served his country with honour and distinction in Korea from 1951-53,” it said and he died ‘peacefully on May 13.

The obituary added: “He was a beloved dad to Janet, Kate and Suzanna and a treasured grandfather to James, Lily, Luke, Harry, Maximilien, Calixte and Alexandre.”

The funeral service will take place at Retford Road Cemetery in Manton, Worksop, where David will be laid to rest with his beloved sister, Janet Wynne.

The Korean War was a war between North Korea, with military support from China and the Soviet Union, and South Korea, backed by personnel from the United Nations, which ran from June 1950 when North Korea invaded South Korea and ended unofficially in July 1953 in an armistice.
