An undoubted highlight of last night’s incredible show was when lead singer Brandon Flowers launched into the band’s debut single from 2003 – a huge roar going up around the stadium as the distinctive intro kicked in.

And from then on it was a throaty singalong as fans screamed the lyrics in a display of unabashed euphoria at the concert, twice delayed because of the Covid pandemic.

The track, perhaps the band’s best known song, has been named one of the Greatest 500 Songs of All Time by Rolling Stone magazine and has been streamed millions of times with millions more views on YouTube.

Mr Brightside has also spent more than 260 consecutive weeks on the UK charts – a staggering five years in total.
